We are saddened to hear of the passing of Julia Hawkins, former Nakanawa counselor and mother to Margaret Matens. Julia, known as the “Hurricane,” was a remarkable centenarian who shattered age barriers, setting records in senior athletics even into her 100s. Her spirit and determination continue to inspire us all. Our thoughts are with her family during this time as we reflect on her extraordinary life. What an amazing legacy!

I didn’t realize that julia battle’s mother was a former counselor at Nakanawa. If I had known I had forgotten. I knew of julia through mutual friends in lafayette.
